Mad Pops | Canggu | Bali Eats

Am I crazy enough to add an ice cream joint to our whole itinerary? Maybe. But who cares? Haha! I was thinking really hard how I would include Mad Pops during our last day since it's quite far from Kuta. Luckily, they have another branch at Canggu, just 5 minutes away from Cafe Organic (Read my review about Cafe Organic here). I always see Bali photos here at Mad Pops, along with their famous neon light signs. The one in Seminyak is more well known though, but at least I'm one of the few people who did it in their Canggu joint.

So now comes the question, is it worth it? Along with the very instagrammable photos I keep seeing, I also read quite a few reviews saying that it's not worth all the hype the internet gives. I knew I had to try it for myself before believing anyone else. Did I like it? Were the negative reviews right all along? Keep reading to find out!

Adrian and I are both fruity ice cream people. We prefer flavors such as strawberries and mango rather than chocolate (go on, hate me!). Knowing that everything at Mad Pops had a coconut base, we expected their gelatos/sorbets to taste a little bit better than the usual.

WHAT WE ORDERED:

MINE:
- Organic Strawberry & Orange Gelato  (One scoop in cone) IDR $30,000
- Dried Candied Strawberries (Toppings) IDR $10,000
I normally don't like generic orange flavors, but since it's fresh I really loved how it tasted together with strawberries. Their sorbets are definitely lighter in taste than others, yet feels really flavorful. I topped mine with dried candied strawberries to ad a bit more crunch! I downed my whole cone in minutes because it was just too good!

ADRIAN'S:
- Organic Mango Sorbet IDR (One scoop in cone) $30,000
- No Toppings
Mango everything is always our favorite! Ordering their mango sorbet was a jerk reaction. And since Adrian is boring, he didn't even bother adding toppings. Haha! That only made us taste the sorbet purely without anything else and we....didn't like it. I'm not sure but it tasted like melted watered down mango juice which was not delicious at all. Probably also because of the coconut base.

So in conclusion I guess you could say that Mad Pops is 50% worth it and not. It really depends if you prefer a lighter flavored sorbet or if you don't mind coconut base at all. There's a lot more flavors that seem interesting but we were too full to try, such as: salted caramel, rainbow, and mango coconut. If you'll ask me I think you should try it for yourselves too and decide whether you'll like it or not. But don't forget to take Instagram pics while you're at it!

Well now we head over to Kuta... See you in my next post! *muah*

  2. Nope, I will definitely add ice cream shop on my next trip's itinerary. Haha. But do they have anything without fruits? Fruits are fine but I personally don't like them in ice creams. Hehe. You look great in your outfit, btw. You nailed it.

  3. Hi!!! Nope, not all their flavors necessarily have fruits. They just use coconut as a base instead of dairy. One of their best seller is actually salted caramel and also rainbow (which I think taste like bubble gum).

You should definitely give it a try when you pass by Seminyak or Canggu <3
